In today’s International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) meeting, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games highlighted recent test events, the Olympic Torch Relay and the publication of version two of the stakeholder Playbooks as key markers of the progress being made.

IOC paves the way for a more sustainable, gender-equal and inclusive Olympic Movement
Just a few months after the approval of its new strategic roadmap, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, the Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today discussed the practical implementation of a number of recommendations addressing topics whose urgency and importance have been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, namely sustainability, legacy, gender equality and inclusion.

Tokyo continues to be best-prepared Olympic city
At today’s International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) meeting, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee underlined their readiness ahead of this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. They are now fully focused on delivering this summer’s Games, following the successful start of the Olympic Torch Relay on 25 March.

IOC Athletes’ Commission’s recommendations on Rule 50 and Athlete Expression at the Olympic Games fully endorsed by the IOC Executive Board
The Athletes’ Commission (AC) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today received the full support of the IOC Executive Board (EB) for a set of recommendations in regard to Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter and Athlete Expression at the Olympic Games. Rule 50 provides a framework to protect the neutrality of sport and the Olympic Games.

IOC Executive Board supports Olympic motto proposal
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) today met virtually and discussed, among other topics, a proposal made by IOC President Thomas Bach to add the word “together” after a hyphen to the Olympic motto “faster, higher, stronger”.

IOC EB decides further provisional measures against NOC of Belarus
Further to the IOC Executive Board decision of 7 December 2020 in relation to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus, the IOC has been informed that the quadrennial Elective General Assembly of the NOC took place on 26 February 2021.

Brisbane and AOC invited to targeted dialogue for the Olympic Games 2032
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) today decided to follow the recommendation of the Future Host Commission for the Games of the Olympiad to enter into a targeted dialogue for the Games of the XXXV Olympiad. The IOC will start more detailed discussions with the Brisbane 2032 Committee and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) about their potential to host the Olympic Games 2032.

Winter YOG Gangwon 2024 sport and event programme promises high-level competition for more athletes
The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today approved the event programme and athlete quotas for the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024, which will offer more young elite athletes than ever access to the Winter YOG environment, ensure a high-performance pathway for the participants, and achieve full gender equality.

New Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee President Hashimoto Seiko was welcomed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) earlier today as she officially introduced herself and outlined her priorities for the Organising Committee.

IOC Executive Board receives an update on the Refugee Olympic Team for Tokyo 2020 and the support Olympic Solidarity continues to offer to refugee athletes
Olympic Solidarity is currently supporting 55 Refugee Athlete Scholarship-Holders, who are training in the hope of competing at Tokyo 2020 this summer. They come from 13 countries and are hosted by 21 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) across all 5 continents, representing 12 sports.

IOC Executive Board proposes Olympic Agenda 2020+5 as the strategic roadmap to 2025
The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has proposed a new strategic roadmap, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, to the upcoming IOC Session. It consists of 15 recommendations. The new roadmap follows Olympic Agenda 2020 and will guide the work of the IOC and the Olympic Movement for the next five years. Olympic Agenda 2020+5 will be submitted to the IOC Members for discussion and adoption at the 137th IOC Session in March this year. The title, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, has been chosen to reflect the fact that this new roadmap is the successor to Olympic Agenda 2020 and will guide the work of the IOC and the Olympic Movement until 2025.

IOC to be climate positive in 2024
In response to the growing climate crisis, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is aligning with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change by setting a target to reduce its direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent, by 2030. The decision was taken at the IOC Executive Board (EB) meeting held remotely today.

Positive momentum continues into 2021 for future Games hosts
Earlier today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) also received progress reports on each edition of the upcoming Olympic  Games and Youth Olympic Games that will follow Tokyo 2020 this summer. These provided further evidence of the continued progress being made in 2021 despite the ongoing challenges being faced across the world.

IOC Session in March to be held virtually
The 137th IOC Session, set to take place from 10 to 12 March 2021, originally in Athens, Greece, will now be held virtually. This decision was taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) during its meeting today.
