LA2028; “Twenty-Eight by ’28” initiative

Statement by Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti;

NOVEMBER 30, 2017
Mayor Eric Garcetti, who chairs the Metro Board, led a preliminary discussion during today’s meeting about a new initiative he has championed, Twenty-Eight by ‘28. The purpose of the initiative is to leverage dollars from Measure M — the largest local infrastructure measure in U.S. history — to complete and accelerate 28 new transportation projects across the region in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Board is expected to consider and vote on the plan early next year.

Mayor Garcetti issued the following statement on the introduction of the initiative:

“Winning the 2028 Olympic Games gives us the chance to re-imagine Los Angeles, and ask ourselves what legacy we will create for generations to come. Twenty-Eight by ’28 will help us frame the progress we’re striving to make in the years leading up to the Games. This initiative is our opportunity to harness the unifying power of the Olympic Movement to transform our transportation future.” — Mayor Eric Garcetti
