2024 Bid; Los Angeles agree to host 2028 Olympic Games – Reactions

 

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said: “Today we take a major step toward bringing the Games back to our city for the first time in a generation and begin a new chapter in Los Angeles’ timeless Olympic story.”

Casey Wasserman, chairman of the bid committee,  said: “This opportunity is unprecedented. From every vantage point – sports, infrastructure, social programs, finance – it is a big win for Los Angeles.”

IOC President Thomas Bach said:  “The IOC welcomes this decision of the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Candidature Committee. and we are pleased to release the Host City contract 2028 in a transparent and timely manner.”

Sir Philip Craven, IPC President, said: “The whole Paralympic Movement welcomes the decision by Los Angeles to put themselves forward to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, said: “Paris and Los Angeles are two amazing global cities that are united in their support of the Olympic cause and we stand together now to help the Games thrive in 2024 and 2028.”

Tony Estanguet, Co-Chair of Paris 2024, said: “Paris 2024 is proud to be working together with the IOC and our friends in Los Angeles to reach a positive solution for both cities, the Games and the whole Olympic Movement for 2024 and 2028.”
